About this lesson

Stalkware, also known as spouseware or creepware, refers to a type of malware designed specifically for the purpose of secretly monitoring and spying on another individual's mobile phone or computer activity. Unlike other forms of malware that are often aimed at stealing financial information or causing disruptions, stalkware is typically used on a personal level—often by someone the victim knows, such as a jealous partner, overbearing parent, or even a stalker. It enables the perpetrator to track locations, read text messages, view photos, listen to calls, and even activate cameras without the victim's consent.
