About this lesson

Proton Mail is an email service known for its emphasis on privacy and security. It was founded in 2013 by scientists who met at CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) and were motivated by a shared vision of a more secure and private internet. Proton Mail uses end-to-end encryption to ensure that emails are encrypted on the sender's device and can only be decrypted by the recipient’s device, making it virtually impossible for anyone in between, including Proton Mail itself, to read the emails.

Monthly checklist

Every month follow these tips to ensure your Proton Mail account is as safe as possible.

  • Use a Strong Password Complexity: Your password should be long, complex, and unique, combining letters, numbers, and symbols to make it difficult to guess or crack.

  • When setting up security questions, choose answers that are not easily guessable or publicly available. Consider using answers that are unrelated to the question as an additional security measure.

  • Recognize Phishing: Be vigilant about phishing attempts. Proton Mail will never ask for your password via email. Learn to recognize signs of phishing, such as suspicious email addresses or links that don’t lead to the legitimate Proton Mail site.
