About this lesson

A Google Account is a user account that provides access to Google-owned services and products such as Gmail, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Drive, Google Photos, Google Play Store, and more. It acts as a unified sign-in system that enables users to access a wide array of Google services with a single username and password. Beyond these services, a Google Account can also be used to sign in to third-party apps and websites that offer signing in with a Google Account, simplifying the login process and reducing the need to create and remember multiple usernames and passwords.

Monthly checklist

Every month follow these tips to ensure your Google Account is as safe as possible.

  • Create a strong, unique password for your Google Account. It should be long, include a mix of characters (uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols), and be distinct from passwords used on other sites.

  • Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second form of verification in addition to your password when signing in. This could be a code sent to your phone, a prompt on a trusted device, or a physical security key.

  • Regularly Review Account Activity: Regularly check your Google Account's security checkup page for unfamiliar devices or activities. Google will also alert you of suspicious activity, but it’s good practice to do your own checks.
